Former Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has told the Turkish media that he wanted to sign Yunus Akgün when the attacker was on loan at Leicester City from Galatasaray.
Bulut was released by the Championship side in September after a poor start to the season.
Speaking to Halk TV, the 50-year-old was asked about his time at Cardiff City and where he thinks it went wrong. The Turkish coach pointed to the fact that there were some players who he wanted to sign in order to improve the team, including Akgün.
As previously stated by Bulut, he also wanted to sign Fenerbahce attacker Oğuz Aydın before his summer transfer to Alanyaspor, but was again unable to bring the player to the Cardiff City Stadium.
“I tried to get Oğuz Aydin to Cardiff. For me, he’s a very good winger. I even asked for Yunus Akgün, I talked to him on the phone at that time. He was at Leicester City; Galatasaray had situation with him. I had such a conversation with him. We tried to see if we could get him. These are players who can do very well in that league,” said Bulut.
Bulut arrived at Cardiff City 2023 and in his first season with the Welsh side he guided them to mid-table in the Championship.
Last summer he signed a contract extension with the club, but after picking up just one point in the opening six games this season, he was sacked by the Cardiff City hierarchy.
Akgün himself has gone from strength to strength since returning to Galatasaray after his loan spell at Leicester City, and has recently been linked with a transfer to Everton.
