Ralf Rangnick’s former agent has revealed managing Manchester United has long been the 63-year-old’s dream.
The Red Devils bolstered the squad with the additions of Jadon Sancho, Raphaël Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer widow. Despite that, they endured a difficult start to the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United parted ways with the Norwegian and appointed Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the current campaign. He will then work as a consultant for two years, starting from next summer.
Marc Kosicke, the agent of Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, had Rangnick as one of his clients ‘once’. That’s according to Sport1, who also interviewed Kosicke, and asked if he was surprised with the former RB Leipzig manager’s decision to move to Manchester.
Responding to that, he said: “I was surprised that it finally happened. Ralf had at some point become self-employed as a consultant and had an interesting mandate at Lokomotiv Moscow.
“I’m happy for him. A top club in the Premier League – that was his lifelong dream. Here, too, I wish him almost maximum luck. As long as they always stay a place below Liverpool, that’s okay.”
With Rangnick now joining Klopp and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel in the Premier League, Kosicke gave his take on how German coaches are impressing outside the country.
“You have to look at the current coaching market. The German trainers abroad currently have a good track record. Almost all of them are among the top 4 with their teams in the respective European leagues,” Kosicke explained.
“Klopp and Tuchel in the Premier League, Schwarz in Russia, Schmidt in the Netherlands, Wagner in Switzerland. As is well known, the table does not lie.
“I believe that they [United] are now making use of Ralf’s know-how, both as a trainer and as a club builder and sports director, and say: ‘Come on, we’ll do it until the end of the season and maybe it will continue then’.
“Otherwise, Ralf should be at our side in an advisory capacity’.”
