Club América president Santiago Baños has revealed he’s held discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raúl Jiménez over a move back to the North American side.
The Mexico international came up through the ranks of Club América and spent three years with their first team, before arriving in Europe in 2014.
Baños has opened the door for the Wolves striker to return to his former club and his comments are relayed by Record in Mexico.
“I spoke with Raúl before the World Cup. He has a contract for many years in England and his short-term idea is to stay in Europe and be there,” he said.
The 31-year-old has been restricted to not much over 1000 minutes of action from 18 matches this season, during which he managed three goals and an assist. He hasn’t featured for the Premier League side since last month’s international break.
This has seen him linked to the Mexican side and Beşiktaş in recent days. Earlier this week, journalist Héctor González-Villalba, writing in his column for Medio Tiempo, urged the Wolves player to return to the Mexican club after his recent struggles.
Baños’ latest comment makes it clear that Jiménez, who has a deal at Wolves until 2024, is keen to continue in Europe.
