For quite some time Marcel Brands has fancied a move to a Premier League club, and for quite some time De Telegraaf seem to have been acting as his unofficial agent.

In December the Dutch newspaper had a big claim saying Chelsea were interested and had narrowed their director of football search down to two candidates, of which the PSV man was one.

Then in January, De Telegraaf published pretty much the same story but changed the club to Everton. The layout was the same, and even the claim of Brands being one of two candidates.

A couple of days ago the newspaper reported Brands is the ‘last remaining candidate’ for Everton, and that the club are going full on in their pursuit of him.

PSV were said to already be preparing for Brands’ departure and were targeting candidates to replace him.

Now PSV manager Phillip Cocu has been asked about the situation, and is quoted by De Telegraaf as saying: “If Marcel were to leave, I would be very sorry. I think our cooperation, at the service of the club, is very fruitful.”

It would be no surprise if it’s Brands and/or his representatives pushing the Everton route, and knocking on Goodison’s door.
