With Brazil having some problems in midfield in this international break, there’s a chance two Newcastle United players could see some minutes together in the national team.
Those are Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, who’ll be fighting for a couple of places in midfield in the games against Colombia and Argentina.
The former Lyon player gave a press conference at the national team camp, and quoted by Globo Esporte, he talked about his Newcastle teammate.
“Being with someone you’re with on a daily basis makes it easier. I see him more than my mum and dad (laughs). A big brother. But that is up to Diniz. But it’s great to be here with him,” he said.
Bruno Guimarães also spoke about the importance of the upcoming games, highlighting the big South American classic there is to come.
“We know that Brazil-Argentina is a separate game, because of everything it involves. Obviously we keep that in mind, but we’re totally focused on Colombia, it’s a tough, physical game.
“We’re giving Colombia our due attention, and then we’ll give it to Argentina. It’s a team that’s been proving itself, with new players, just like us. Anything can happen, it’s a different game and one that every player likes to play.”
Brazil will be playing Colombia away on Thursday and then Argentina in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday. Bruno will then be facing the South American rivals in his home town, and he’s glad about that.
“Marvellous. Being with the people I like. Everyone goes to the Maracanã. I had some time with them before training. I have fond memories of the Maracanã. It’s where I feel good. It’s where I want to live when my career is over. I’m happy to be here.”
According to Globo Esporte, Bruno Guimarães was used in Fernando Diniz’s starting team in training, so we should see him in the line-up, with Joelinton possibly coming on from the bench.
Newcastle will only be back in action on the 25th of November, when they play Chelsea at St James’ Park.
