With Nottingham Forest now establishing themselves in the Premier League, there are many managers that worked at the club in previous seasons who feel like they have some credit for it.
One of them is Aitor Karanka, who was in charge of the Tricky Trees between January 2018 and January 2019, and now recalled his time at the club.
The manager was interviewed by Marca in Spain in a special piece about his ten years as a coach. There he spoke about Nottingham Forest and claimed to be glad about their current form.
“I arrived at a team that was fighting to avoid relegation and, between January and summer, we made a lot of changes. Not only players, we also changed the medical staff and many things within the structure of the club,” Karanka told Marca.
Karanka stayed in charge of Nottingham Forest for 52 matches, holding a record of 17 wins, 18 draws and 17 losses. In the only season he did finish with the club, they ended up in 17th place. And in the 2018/19 season, which he started and left in the middle, they finished in 9th.
The coach then managed Birmingham, Granada and Maccabi Tel Aviv. He’s been without a club since the summer after leaving the Israeli side, and maybe he is hoping this big story from Marca will help him get a new job.
