At the start of this week, Mundo Deportivo reported Arsenal ‘intend to push hard’ to sign Guido Rodríguez, having followed the Real Betis player for months.
On Tuesday, Estadio Deportivo backed up the Gunners’ interest in the midfielder and added the La Liga side are holding on to his €80m buyout clause.
Another report from Estadio Deportivo now explains the 26-year-old’s name in on the agenda of the north London club for the next market.
They even predict a ‘clean up’ at Arsenal at the end of this season and expect new players to arrive. According to the claims, the Argentina international could be among them.
With regards to the recent reports linking him with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side, the player has decided to respond to these claims via the club’s official media.
“I saw it because friends from Argentina asked me, but I told them that I knew the same as them. I am the protagonist because I am in the news but today, I do not know more or less than you who saw it,” he was quoted as saying by Estadio Deportivo.
The South American further stressed he’s happy with Manuel Pellegrini’s side, having joined Real Betis from Club América in 2020.
“I am very happy, I arrived and there was one or two months with a strange situation for everyone with the issue of confinement but the truth is that I am very happy in Seville, with the city, the weather, at the club… I’m very happy,” Rodríguez explained.
“It feels a bit [pandemic] when we walk down the street, I would have liked to experience all this with the fans in the stadium. I could only play a few games with the packed stadium.”
While acknowledging he is aware of Arsenal rumours, Rodríguez didn’t categorically rule out a move to the Premier League side in the summer.
