In the final weeks of the transfer window, Arsenal were linked to Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, and it was even reported that the Gunners placed a £20m bid to take him from Brazil.
With Palmeiras president Leila Pereira claiming they would not sell the player this summer, there was some curiosity if the club would keep their stance. But with no updates on that rumour, things did not advance.
The Verdão boss gave this week a press conference and talked about Danilo’s situation, claiming they can keep any player they want. The quotes are covered by Torcedores, who point out the player had been linked to the likes of Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Lyon.
“Regarding Danilo: I said he wasn’t going to leave and he didn’t,” said Leila Pereira.
“I’ll tell you: players of this size, important in the history of Palmeiras, I don’t make decisions alone. I always consult our coach, coaching staff. If my coach says he can’t lose the player under any circumstances, he doesn’t leave.”
With the transfer window closing, it was later claimed that Arsenal would make a €25m offer for Danilo ‘in the coming months’, and it’s still unknown if Palmeiras would be keen on making a business in the coming windows.
Torcedores points out that only an ‘offer too good to refuse’ would convince the Brazilian club to make a deal. It’s recalled that he’s protected by a €100m release clause, so they have him well protected.
