Southampton striker Guido Carrillo says he “prefers” not to think about his future at the club with him set to return this summer.

The striker joined Southampton in a £19.8m deal from Monaco in 2018 in a deal that was the club’s most expensive at the time and remains their fourth dearest of all time.

His time with the club has not been a success, though, with him managing just two assists in ten games and largely considered one of their worst ever signings.

He has spent the last two seasons on loan at Spanish side Leganés, where has gone a long way to rebuilding his career with ten goals and three assists in 56 games thus far.

They have made it clear in the past that they want him long-term and were keen on a permanent deal last summer, but were unable to agree on the financial aspects of any such deal with Southampton.

That means he’s set to return to St Mary’s this summer when his loan deal expires and will thus find himself in the final year of his deal at the club.

What happens beyond this summer remains to be seen and he doesn’t want to think about it right now.

“I still have a year left in England, but I prefer not to think about it now,” Somos Lega report him saying.

“We have a very important objective which is to save Leganés. And we are all focused on that.

“It’s the only thing that matters to me right now.”
