Everton’s Idrissa Gueye has sat down with Canal+ in France and discussed everything that went on during the January transfer window.

In case you’ve forgotten, which we highly doubt, we’ll just remind you that the defensive midfielder came very close to signing for Paris Saint-Germain, but the Toffees, for fear of not being able to find a replacement in time, stood in the player’s way.

A bit disappointed at first, the Senegal international quickly got over the whole thing and is now back in Marco Silva’s plans, trying to get Everton back up the table after a relatively disappointing run of results.

During the interview, Gueye was asked why he didn’t try and force a move like so many others have done and will do before him.

He said: “It’s really not in my nature to make a scene and clash with the board knowing they’ve done everything for me, that they’ve already been correct with me. They allowed me to stay in the Premier League after Aston Villa got relegated.

“I owe everything to this club and will continue to give everything for the club as long as I’m there.”

Right at the end, Gueye was asked if he was expecting to be given a free pass to leave in the summer, but the midfielder remained coy on the issue, maintaining he was solely focused on finishing the campaign strongly with the Toffees rather than thinking ahead.

Professionalism at its best.
