Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui has revealed he had the option to join Tottenham as they continue their managerial hunt.
Spurs have been searching for their new manager for the past few months after electing to sack Jose Mourinho earlier this year.
They’ve been linked with a long line of managers since that point, having come close to Antonio Conte before the Italian pulled away.
The current favourite is former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca, who is available after leaving the Italian side at the end of last season.
He’s yet to be confirmed despite reports indicating that a deal is close, and in the interim, more names have been added to the list of options.
One of those is Lopetegui, who has impressed since joining Sevilla in 2019 after a disappointing spell at Real Madrid.
Reports have indicated that he rejected a move to Tottenham and, while not confirming that, the Spaniard has confirmed they were an option for him.
“Tottenham? I am where I want to be. I could have had options,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying to Radio Marca.
“Logically, we are very happy and content, with our heads focused on making Sevilla grow and making Sevilla competitive again.
“We’re focused on that; we’re not looking elsewhere. I still have a lot of objectives to achieve.
“The main one is to be able to constantly improve the team, and then the profession gives you different challenges.
“Now my dream is to make Sevilla better, more reliable and to respond to all the excitement of Sevilla fans.”
