Colombian legend Faustino Asprilla frequently gives his critical view on Everton star James Rodriguez, constantly making public statements about the 30-year-old.

Now with the midfielder not taking part in the national team’s latest fixtures, it seems even the former Newcastle United player has missed him.

Asprilla spoke to Equipo F last night, and when talking about how bad Colombia have been in the past few games, this time he claimed Rodriguez would have a lot to add to the team.

“I always have James in my team and more so in the national team, because James with the Colombia national team shirt plays well, beyond the fact that if he doesn’t play at the team where he is, I am not interested,” Asprilla told Equipo (via Colombia.com).

“I am one of those who believes that there are players who play well with a national team jersey, because there are club and national team players. James is a national team player. James’ numbers with the national team are terrific.”

James Rodriguez didn’t make it to Colombia’s squad because manager Reinaldo Rueda didn’t consider him to be ‘500%’ for the games against Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile.

The midfielder is still to make any appearances for Everton this season. He’s now returning from vacation and should first prove himself for the Toffees before getting any new chances with the national team.
