About a month ago, it was reported that Aston Villa were interested in Bordeaux’s Mehdi Zerkane.

The winger, who made 27 appearances for the French club last season, scoring one goal and picking up an assist, was said to be a target for Dean Smith, who appears to be looking for attacking reinforcements.

The proud owner of one Algerian cap, Zerkane could have taken the opportunity to veer away from the hot mess that is Bordeaux these days, currently looking for a new owner, who will most likely be Gérard Lopez.

Yet, as reported by Fennec Football, the 21-year-old has made a decision about his future, and it appears it will be very far away from Villa Park.

Speaking to Algerian television and relayed by the aforementioned outlet, Zerkane said: “I don’t know anything about Aston Villa’s interest in me. What is certain is that I’m at Bordeaux and I have no desire to leave, especially since I play regularly”.

So, it appears that if Dean Smith was indeed looking to the young forward to improve his attack, he will now have to do so elsewhere and focus on a new target.
