Often when players leave clubs in the modern game, they do so and don’t think very highly of them afterwards. For a big club like Manchester United, that has become something of the norm.
Some players who have left Old Trafford over the last few years have either spoken ill of the club afterwards or shown absolutely no affinity for them.
It seems, though, that is not the case for Matteo Darmian. He joined Manchester United from Torino in 2015, but his time at the club was hardly a great one.
He struggled to establish himself as the first-choice right-back at Old Trafford, despite having been brought in to fill that role.
A tally of 92 appearances over four years indicates as much, with him sealing a permanent €2.23m move to Parma in 2019 in search of the game time he wanted.
That’s something he’s found, subsequently going on to impress with the Italian side and sealing a move to Inter Milan as a result.
Given his struggles with Manchester United, it would be fair to assume he doesn’t think all that highly of them, but it seems that is not the case, as he revealed to Sky Italia.
“I was lucky enough to live in that dressing room,” FC Inter News report him saying.
“Playing for a club like that is a big responsibility. Ronaldo has been a legend for United, he can still give a lot, and he will do well.
“I wish him the best, and I hope the club can come back and win something important.”
