Following all the reports saying there’s an agreement for Cristian Romero’s transfer from Atalanta to Tottenham Hotspur, it’s now a matter of waiting until the defender finally lands in London to complete the move.

The first steps have already been taken, because the player has been spotted at Bergamo Airport as he catches his flight to England.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio features a story with many pictures of Romero carrying his bags as he says farewell to Italy. It’s claimed that he completed his medical ‘a few minutes’ before the trip.

Sky Italia even managed to get a long statement from the defender, who said he’s very glad about the move.

“I’m happy to have made a right choice again, I’m very happy for the year I had at Atalanta, I thank all of Bergamo, I’m sorry to leave it but I have to think about my career and I hope this is a good choice. I have to keep growing and doing this, I have to think about doing well now,” Romero told Sky Italia.

Asked if Tottenham and Paratici really wanted him, he said: “I thank them, from the first day they were interested in me, I liked the project they have for me and so I chose Tottenham for this. Now I have to answer on the pitch, but first I want to thank all of Bergamo and Atalanta, the Percassi family and all my teammates. The coach who made me grow in a way that I never would have thought, I say thank you to everyone.

“It’s been an incredible year for me, I never thought I’d get to this level. Right now I’m thinking that three years ago before arriving in Italy I almost quit football, the Italian league was very important for me, it made me grow in all respects and I’m very happy to have played here and now I have to continue. The Premier League is a very difficult championship, but I have to be ready to do everything and continue as I have done until now.

“I’m sorry too, I only have to say thank you to them, since I arrived in Bergamo they have behaved very well with me and now there’s an Atalanta fan in London.”

The Italian media has been claiming that Tottenham will spend €55m on the signing. So far, this is the most expensive transfer Spurs have made this summer, while they’re also paying €25m to sign Bryan Gil from Sevilla.
