Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has insisted he intends to keep fighting for his place at Anfield, even though the competition is getting ‘tougher’.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been with Liverpool since signing on a free transfer from West Ham in August 2019.
His two years with Jurgen Klopp’s side have been exciting, to say the least, with him winning the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in his first year with them.
Indeed, he was key to the Super Cup win, playing a starring role in the shoot-out against Chelsea to win Liverpool’s first trophy that year.
He’s since played a backup role under Alisson, with the Brazilian the undisputed number one at Anfield.
For example, Adrian is yet to feature for Liverpool this season, sitting on the bench for both of their Champions League games and only making the Premier League squad once.
With his contract expiring next summer, it’s likely he’ll leave, but he insists he will fight for his place regardless.
“It’s not whether I want to or not, it’s whether the circumstances are right,” he told ABC, regarding a return to former club Real Betis.
“Last time, Betis were looking for a goalkeeper, and I was free. I was offered the chance by Liverpool, and look, we signed, and we’ve been here for three seasons now.
“We will continue to fight here, the competition is getting tougher and tougher. But I like challenges and we are still at the bottom of the barrel. We’ll see what comes in the future.”
