Sporx report newly appointed Fenerbahce manager Ersun Yanal still has high hopes for struggling Leicester City loanee Islam Slimani.

The Algerian striker joined the Istanbul club on loan at the start of the season but he’s failed to deliver, scoring just one league goal in 14 appearances.

Despite his poor performances, Sporx say Yanal is hoping he can get the best out of the Leicester City flop in the coming weeks so that the Super Lig club can turn their season around. Fenerbahce currently sit just one point above the relegation places.

As paraphrased by Sporx, Ersun Yanal has told Slimani: “I know what you are capable of. Stay calm on the pitch, trust yourself and your ability. If you are in the right place at the right time, the goals will come.”

Slimani has been heavily criticised in the Turkish media because of his recent performances and he’s been labelled one of the worst strikers ever to wear a Fenerbahce shirt.

We recently covered reports from Turkey that Fenerbahce are considering terminating Slimani’s loan agreement and sending him back to Leicester City. However, the Foxes reportedly rejected this idea, meaning he must remain in Istanbul until the summer.
