Globo Esporte’s podcast Gringolandia today features an interview with Watford striker João Pedro.
With the youngster having moved to England at the age of 18, most of his chat was about his adaptation and evolution with the Hornets following these two years at the club. He now claims he has more of a ‘voice’ there.
“I’m satisfied with what I’ve been doing, with the opportunities I’m having too. This year we’ve been talking a lot and I think that because I’ve been here for three years, I’m getting more voice in the locker room, talking to the guys,” João Pedro told Globo Esporte.
It took a while for João Pedro to start playing for Watford, as he joined the club in the middle of a season where they were relegated. That’s why in his first months at the club, he spent most of the time on the bench, and only gained more space in their following season in the Championship.
“I didn’t have a lot of sequence in games, but from what I had been showing in training, I knew it was just a matter of time before I started playing. I saw my evolution, even though I was young and also skinny, I knew my time would come. That it was a matter of time. The other season, I played 40 games and scored nine goals. And now it’s time to continue and always seek to evolve.”
Now finally back to the Premier League this season, João Pedro has two goals and one assist in the competition. He claims he’s now more experienced to feature in the top flight, and works to help Watford to get out of the dangerous position they’re in.
“My time in the Championship was very important, because it was where I had the most sequence, evolved more and understood more about English football. And I was able to readapt myself, take the good and the bad and improve myself. Nowadays, playing Premier, I can do my best.”
