Balázs Tóth spent his entire playing career in Hungary before joining Blackburn Rovers from Fehérvár FC last summer.

Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace has used Aynsley Pears as his first-choice goalkeeper in the league this season, with 27-year-old Tóth as his main backup.

The Hungarian had to wait until last weekend to make his debut for Blackburn Rovers and that came in their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Wednesday’s edition of Hungarian newspaper Blikk has published an interview with Tóth, where he expressed his delight over making his first appearance for the Championship side.

Blackburn Rovers will host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the next round of the FA Cup and the stopper isn’t clear if he will get the opportunity to face Wolves.

“I didn’t have much to do on my debut, I made an important save in a 1-0 win, and I’m happy to have played in a match without conceding a goal,” he said.

“I haven’t been told yet who will be defending in the next cup game, but I think it’s likely I’ll get it. Of course, I hope to get a chance in the Championship.”

The goalkeeper has revealed he missed two months of this season due to multiple injuries and insists that he’s yet to regain full fitness. He feels the first appearance for the English club should come as a boost in his recovery.

“I was looking forward to the opportunity earlier, but a lot of things held me back,” Tóth explained.

“I had two injuries, a wrist problem and then a torn ankle ligament, which meant I had to miss two months in total. I’m still not 100%, but this winning debut will certainly speed up the healing process.”

There were celebrations in his village, Zubogy, in Hungary after his debut for Blackburn Rovers.

“They really support me back home. My parents are the proudest, we talk on a daily basis, they were also waiting to my debut. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be here in person, but my girlfriend was here, she came to Middlesbrough by bus,” he added.
