Despite being promised to Tottenham, who bought him this summer before loaning him back to Udinese, Destiny Udogie has yet to speak with Antonio Conte.
This is what the player revealed on Wednesday, as the young left-back continues to shine with the Serie A side in a season where he will be wanting to impress Spurs scouts and staff as much as possible.
The aim would be for him to run up and down the left hand side of Tottenham’s defence for years to come, which he is clearly looking forward to doing, but many would have expected the player to at least exchange a few words with Conte at the time of his signing.
That didn’t happen, as he explained to La Repubblica, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb: “Serie A helps you grow. The months I remain here on loan at Udine will be important to improve myself further. In my head, I’m here now, meaning I haven’t heard from Conte yet.
“The Premier League doesn’t scare me. The football is fantastic and I have always spoken English at home with my parents, who were born in Nigeria.”
Perhaps it was therefore a choice from the player to not speak to Conte in order to stay focused and not be distracted by the prospect of his move to Tottenham next season?
Either way, Udogie has backed up Spurs’ decision to spend over £16m on him by continuing to be a big part of Udinese’s first-team, scoring two goals in the seven games he has featured in in Serie A so far this campaign.
