Over the past week or so, claims from Spain have reported Newcastle United are keen on signing Málaga CF’s Antonio Cordero in the summer window.

Marca reported the EFL Cup winners have made a ‘strong bid’ for the 18-year-old and FC Porto have matched their offer.

Four days ago, the same newspaper stated the winger’s future ‘points to Newcastle’ amid interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and others.

Estadio Deportivo have backed up Newcastle and Porto interest in Cordero, who has a contract expiring in June. The report further adds that both the Magpies and the Dragons have made offers.

Earlier claims have stated the Spanish club are finding it difficult to tie him down to a new contract as they won’t be able to match Newcastle and Porto’s proposals. Málaga director Kike Pérez, however, isn’t giving up on retaining the Spain U19 international.

Pérez has been speaking to PTV Málaga’s Zona Deporte about the Newcastle target and Málaga’s Kevin Medina, who also has a contract expiring at the end of this season. Estadio have relayed his comments.

“I have hope because, and I’ve always said this, I’m no longer saying this as someone who works at Málaga or as their general director. I’m saying this as someone who works in football. Things will happen, and in the end, we’ll see what happens,” he said.

The official insists the Segunda División club are the “best” option for Cordero and Medina to continue their developments. At the same time, he isn’t surprised by interest shown by other clubs, like Newcastle and Porto, in Cordero.

“I see it as logical. I don’t think that whether you’re here or not, people give everything until the end. I’m not one to hold things against others. Whoever’s here, as long as they give everything they have, there’s nothing to say,” Pérez explained.
