Bought to Liverpool over the summer to provide much needed competition for Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius has done what was required of him and much more.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper, following a decent run of performances, appears to have pushed the experienced Belgium international down the pecking order, much to Mignolet’s displeasure.

With five appearances now under his belt for Liverpool, the player feels things are going to plan after his summer transfer, which he explained in detail to Sport Bild on Wednesday.

Telling the German newspaper who he feared more between the dentist and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (it’s the dentist), Karius also talked about his manager, the much beloved Jürgen Klopp.

He said: “As far as his abilities are concerned, he’s certainly exceptional. He’s extremely hungry for success and wants to bring Liverpool forward. That’s exactly how he has put the squad together, with players who really want to play for the club. He is a personality that everybody wants to listen to.”

Enjoying a comfortable as FC Mainz’s starting goalkeeper, the young goalkeeper, who already has 100 first-team appearances under his belt, explained it was Klopp’s charisma that convinced him to join Liverpool.

He said: “He introduced himelf briefly, and then we had a long conversation. I had a good feeling right away because he is such a nice guy. We talked about all sorts of things, and I quickly felt we were on the same wavelength. That’s when I immediately realised that I would go to Liverpool”.

Transferring for a rather minimal fee of £5.3m, the former Manchester City U23 goalkeeper could prove to be a steal for the Reds down the road.

Only conceding three goals in his first five games certainly shows he’s on the right track.
