Palmeiras have ended their pursuit of Fulham’s Andreas Pereira after chasing him for the last two months.

The Brazilian transfer window is open until February 28th and Palmeiras president Leila Pereira initially went public over her side’s desire to sign the midfielder. She and her side were frustrated with their failure to secure his services.

Last month, the president admitted the Brazilian club are doing their best to snatch the 29-year-old from Fulham. They weren’t unsuccessful and even though the window in Brazil is still open, Palmeiras won’t be able to sign the former Manchester United man.

Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira claims the Fulham player was one the failed transfer of this window and Globo Esporte have relayed his comments.

The Portuguese claims he gave the green light to his club to sign Pereira, but the player won’t be joining Palmeiras. The Brazil international is among the ‘failed negotiations’ of the window.

“Everything was planned. Paulinho, I gave my approval. Claudinho, I gave approval, but it never arrived. Andreas, I gave the approval, it didn’t arrive,” he said.

“Emiliano [Martínez], I gave my approval. Facundo, I gave my approval. Fuchs was a good trade.”

“We had six fullbacks, we have two on the right who play on the left, we made a change where we needed to have a defender. The sale of Vitor Reis opened up space and we are looking. You know we are looking for a centre forward. We want players who can’t be doubted.”

The player’s contract at Fulham lasts until 2026, with an option for another year. Earlier this month, we covered claims from Brazil which stated it’s uncertain whether Andreas Pereira will renew his contract with Marco Silva’s side.
