Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina has admitted he still feels a love for Liverpool, as they were the club where he ‘felt fulfilled’.

Reina, as you’ll be aware, spent nine years at Liverpool between 2005 and 2014, making 285 appearances for the club before leaving for Napoli and then Bayern Munich.

He was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for the eight years he was there, establishing himself as a key player and racking up more than 100 clean sheets in the process.

There was also trophy success, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and Super Cup, as well as being a Champions League runner up in 2007.

He remains a firm favourite with the club’s fanbase, who voted him as their player of the season in 2009/10 and fondly remember his days as their number one.

It seems that’s a mutual feeling, with Reina admitting he still sees Liverpool as the best point in his career, despite spells with Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and now Lazio since his departure.

The goalkeeper was recently awarded the best Serie A goalkeeper for 2020/21 and revealed his fondness for the Reds.

“It’s recognition,” COPE report him saying.

“I felt fulfilled at Liverpool; it was my best footballing moment. It’s the club that has represented me the most.

“I have been good everywhere. In every city, I have been treated with great affection. In every place, they have left the doors open for me.”
