German outlet Bild this week features an interview with Leeds United defender Robin Koch.
The 26-year-old had a long conversation about the goals the Whites have for this year, as well as his development at the club and his relationship with current players and coach.
But before talking about the start of the season, they had to discuss what happened prior to that. The Whites recently fought against relegation, and Bild wanted to know if the player would still be at Elland Road if they were playing in the Championship now.
“That’s a good question. I’ve tried not to think too much about it. My agent and I were very much in agreement that we should focus solely on the situation at Leeds. Of course, it was important for me that we managed to stay up. I feel very comfortable here and still have a lot of goals with the club,” Koch told Bild.
Then speaking of Leeds’ 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, Koch was not only asked about the result, but also about the fact that he was given the armband in the final minutes of the game.
“The first game of the season is always very important, so we’re extremely happy about our first win against a strong team. We rewarded ourselves for the good preparation. The feeling of winning in a sold-out stadium at home is still really great.
“I like to take on responsibility in the team, even off the field. I also see that as one of my tasks. On the pitch, it’s also important that you perform and move forward.”
Koch was also asked to talk about Raphinha, with Bild quizzing him how much the winger’s departure to Barcelona ‘hurt’ them.
“Rapha is one of the best footballers I’ve played with. He will play an important role at Barcelona. He’s a super boy whose dream was to continue the Brazilian era at Barca. Of course, such a type of player is missing. But I’m sure that we will compensate for that. We have a lot of quality in the squad and we’ve got top newcomers.”
And speaking of new signings, Koch made a few comments about Marc Roca, who recently left Bayern Munich to join Leeds United.
“He has a fine technique, but he also has the gene to want to fight for every ball. Marc is not only a technician but also a fighter who fits into the Premier League. He also speaks very good German. I told him to keep it that way. It’s just important for him to get minutes now.”
