Arsenal will have work on their hands convincing Ajax youngster Jorrel Hato to join the club this summer.
That’s at least if Hato’s latest comments, via Voetbal Primeur, are anything to go by, with him insisting that he’s more than happy at Ajax.
Arsenal have long been linked with a more for the 19-year-old, who is one of the rising stars in Dutch football.
He’s further established himself at Ajax this season, with 50 appearances in all competitions and increase on the 46 appearances he managed in all competitions last season.
Arsenal have been named among his suitors alongside Chelsea. A report yesterday even stated they could make a move for the defender as part of a complete defensive refresh this summer.
The Gunners are no strangers to signing Ajax youth products, after paying €40m to sign Jurrien Timber from the Dutch giants in July 2023.
It would likely take a similarly big fee to secure Hato’s signature, and it seems they will need to convince him too, as he admits he’s more than comfortable where he is currently.
“The smartest thing is to look at it per season. That’s what I do,” he is quoted as saying to Ajax’s channels.
“”Of course you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship. I still have plenty of time. I don’t think I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years.
“In the Dutch league you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes top. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.”
