Ilkay Gundogan has spoken to the German media, after an open-training session with the country’s national team.
He was asked about Leroy Sane and a potential move to Bayern Munich. The Manchester City player has been strongly linked with the Bundesliga club, and Bayern haven’t been afraid when speaking about a transfer publicly.
Gundogan made it clear he doesn’t think his club and national teammate is going anywhere, and perhaps also gave a hint on his own future.
Quoted by Kicker, he sounds very optimistic about the situation: “He does not give me the impression he really wants to leave… and the club doesn’t want to give him away. With Leroy still having a two year contract, I don’t think there’s any danger of action, and I personally expect him to stay, and of course I’m very happy about it.”
Maybe it’s reading too much into Gundogan’s comments, but that he’s so happy about Sane likely staying, at least as he sees it right now, could suggest he also sees his long term future at Manchester City.
With just a year of contract left with the Premier League champions, the midfielder’s future has been under question.
