Madger Gomes left Villarreal for Liverpool in 2014 and was part of the Reds’ academy for three years.
Having struggled to find his way into the Merseyside club’s first team, they released the midfielder in 2017.
Leeds United came forward to acquire the 22-year-old’s services in 2017, signing him on a three-year contract. He was delighted to have received to call sporting director Victor Orta, but things never went according to his plans at Elland Road.
The Spaniard was left out of the squad for the Championship games and was restricted to only two appearances in the EFL Cup. Gomes struggled during his time there and was forced to leave Leeds a year after joining them.
“When Victor Orta called me, I was very excited. Leeds are a very big club, Elland Road is a very nice stadium, always with 30 thousand people. Leeds deserves to be in the Premier League. But I did not have much continuity, also because of injuries,” Gomes told Marca.
The player has had short spells in with Sochaux and NK Istra 196, and after struggling in France and Croatia, Gomes joined Doncaster Rovers in the last window. He remains hopeful of helping the League One side achieve promotion to the Championship.
“I signed for Doncaster because I really wanted to go back to English football, I really missed England. The goal is to go up to the Championship,” he explained.
“I adapted very well here. It is a cozy, familiar club, but with a very highly competitive level. It must be understood that, although it is the third division of English football, there are many players here that were in the first division in other countries. League One is very competitive.”
