Former Chelsea youngster Daishawn Redan has revealed he once threw up on the pitch as a result of his efforts to prove himself to the Blues.

20-year-old Redan is currently plying his trade for PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, having joined on loan from Hertha Berlin in the summer.

The move represents a return home for the youngster, who started his career with Ajax’s youth setup before a free transfer to Chelsea in 2017.

He would spend two years at Stamford Bridge, working his way up from the Under 18s to the Under 23’s but never making it close to the first team.

That’s despite impressing at various youth levels, with 14 goals in 34 for the Under 23s, nine in 16 for the Under 18s and nine in 13 for the Under 19s side in Europe.

For whatever reason, Chelsea were just not keen, and he eventually left for Hertha, but Redan insists his failure at the club was not his own doing, although there were benefits.

“The first thing I did with the money I got from Chelsea was to make my parents debt-free,” he told Het Pleintje Van, relayed by Funx.

“I know what they did for me, so it was nice that I could give them something back.

“At some point, I turned that switch and started giving everything. I even puked up on the pitch because I was going to the limit.

“In the end, I was so fit that my quality came out. Everything went automatically, and I scored 36 goals in a year.”
