Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been urged to drop his attitude, as it’s not required to be a world star.
That’s according to former Argentina goalkeeper turned coach Carlos Roa, who believes the Aston Villa goalkeeper doesn’t need the personality that’s built around him.
Martinez has established himself as Argentina’s number one goalkeeper over the last few years after spells at Arsenal and now Aston Villa.
His time with the national team has been an extremely successful one so far but he has also courted controversy for his actions on the pitch.
The biggest incident so far was his clash with Colombia and Everton star Yerry Mina, in which he loudly trash talked the defender before saving his penalty in a shootout in the Copa American semi-finals.
That loud, in your face personality is something the Aston Villa man has adopted in an attempt to get one over his opponents but Roa believes it is entirely unnecessary.
”Each player has his own personality,” he told Bolavip.
“He showed that he has personality and that kind of personality led him to do what he did. If you ask me, I don’t think it’s necessary, but because I have a totally different personality to him.
“If you ask me: Do you like it? No, I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s necessary to show that kind of attitude to be a star, successful and the number one in the world.
“But I don’t judge him either, because it’s not for me to judge him.”
