Mathias Normann spent 18 months with Brighton & Hove Albion but failed to make a single appearance for their first team.

He arrived in the summer of 2017 and was immediately loaned out to Molde. Last season, the midfielder was restricted to appearances with the Seagulls’ U23 side, where he made 11 appearances in Premier League 2.

Earlier this year, the 23-year-old joined Russian side Rostov and has been featuring regularly since then.

His performance for his current club also drew attention from the national team as Norway coach Lars Lagerbäck has included him for the European qualifiers against Malta and Sweden.

Speaking to TV2, Normann credits the call up to the national team down to his time at Rostov. While further discussing about his move from the Premier League club to Russia, the player explains it was the right decision to leave Brighton in January.

“There were really many thoughts. It was either to go or to shut up and work hard. I was too impatient, but right now it is impossible to regret it,” Normann explains.

“It was a slightly different choice. Of course, I do not regret that. I felt it was time to move on. I have many nice people around me who give me tips and advice. Finally, we agreed that it was a good choice.”

To be fair, it’s unlikely Normann would have made it to Norway’s squad for the upcoming international fixture if he was still at Brighton, so it’s understandable if he has no regrets over his decision to leave the English side.
