Former Leeds United winger Raphinha has admitted he would have thought twice about leaving for Barcelona if the Dani Olmo situation had been happening at the time of his move.

Cadena SER cover comments from the Brazilian today in which he still would have made the move to the Nou Camp despite the drama at the club.

Olmo currently finds himself as a free agent after Barcelona were informed, they could not register him in their squad for the second half of the season.

Various court efforts have so far proven unsuccessful for them in their attempts to turn that around and both Olmo and youngster Pau Víctor remain out of the squad.

It’s the latest crisis to envelop Barcelona in recent years, brought about by their continued financial manoeuvrers behind the scenes to ensure they can still compete and complete big money transfers, such as Olmo’s €55m move from RB Leipzig this summer.

Raphinha is one of many big signings they’ve continued to make despite their struggles financially, joining from Leeds United in a €58m deal back in July 2022.

And he’s now admitted if there had been a similar issue around the club around the time he was signing, he undoubtedly would have thought twice about the move from Leeds, but still made it anyway.

“If I were in another club and saw the situation of Pau and Dani, maybe I would think about whether it would be best to be here,” he said.

“When I came, before signing, I knew the situation of the club and the truth is that I waited until the last moment, and I don’t regret anything.

“Many times, we knew the same as you, so we tried to be calm to be able to do our job during the day, in training. I hope that the people who are involved in this can bring us good and quick news.”
