Monday saw a statement come from Massachusetts General Hospital explaining that Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius suffered a concussion during the Champions League Final, and suggesting that could have been the reason behind his two big errors which helped Real Madrid win the match.
There’s been much discussion around the situation since, and regardless of the specifics relating to Karius, it’s good to get the general concussion talk out there.
However, it’s not been accepted completely by Real Madrid players.
Earlier on Tuesday Sergio Ramos was quoted by AS as saying: “Bloody hell, they’ve given this a lot of attention, the Salah thing … I didn’t want to speak because everything is magnified. I see the play well, he grabs my arm first and I fell to the other side, the injury happened to the other arm and they said that I gave him a judo hold. After the goalkeeper said that I dazed him with a clash. I am only missing Firmino saying that he got a cold because a drop of my sweat landed on him.”
Now Toni Kroos has had his say on the situation surrounding Liverpool’s goalkeeper, with Bild going with the headline ‘Kroos doubts Karius diagnosis’.
The Real Madrid player is quoted by Bild as saying: “I don’t know if that explains the errors – I don’t really see it that way. If it’s a concussion and you notice it so extreme, I don’t know if you can or should continue playing.
“If it’s a concussion, it cannot have been so serious. He also had the opportunity to keep the ball in his hands.”
Kroos’ comments may not go down very well with those wanting to use the Karius incident to make attitudes in football more serious towards head injuries.
