Former Manchester United fullback Rafael Da Silva this week revealed an old feud he had with a teammate from the Red Devils.
That’s Carlos Tevez, who played for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side between 2007 and 2009, famously joining Manchester City next.
The statements happened because Rafael was interviewed by Sportv and asked to compare his current side Botafogo to Manchester United from the 2007/08 season.
He obviously made many jokes when picking players from the Rio de Janeiro club. But when having to choose between Tiquinho Soares and Tevez, he was a bit more serious to speak about his former teammate.
“Tiquinho Soares, man. I’m not a fan of Tevez, not as a player. I’ve already had a fight with him. The game against City, he’d left United. I’ve never been a fan of his because Tevez liked to rubbish new players. I’m not ashamed to say, I don’t like him. He did a lot to young players. He treated the youngsters badly at United. He was always very respectful, but he really picked on the youngsters there, so I never liked him. He left United for City. The fight happened, I hit him. The referee gave a foul, I did like this to get him off, he pushed me and it started.”
Rafael played for Manchester United between 2008 and 2015, having 170 appearances for the Red Devils. In his time at the club, he won three Premier League titles.
The fullback left England to play for Lyon, where he stayed for five years. He then signed for İstanbul Başakşehir, spending one season in Turkey, and then finally joined Botafogo in 2021.
The Rio de Janeiro side are currently top of the table and likely to win the league, but Rafael is recovering from knee surgery and hopes to be back before the end of the season.
