Despite being seen as one of the most talented youngsters in the world in 2012, Liverpool and Suso never clicked.

The Spaniard, now at AC Milan, has started the season in extremely good form, and is finally fulfilling the potential that was clearly on display when he signed for the Reds in 2010.

Eventually swapping Anfield for the San Siro in 2015, the 23-year-old believes he is where he is meant to be, explaining the reasons behind his Liverpool exit to Il Fatto Quotidiano over the weekend.

He said: “There came a point at Liverpool when I realised this was no longer the right environment for me. I was the first to stop believing, and if you are young and you stop believing, then it’s over, you’re better off going elsewhere.

“I always tell the kids at Milan, like José Mauri: believe in it, or go. I don’t feel any disappointment. I’m happy and I’m where I was supposed to be”.

Linked with a return to the Premier League over the summer, with Tottenham said to be interested, the Spaniard could soon be in line for a new contract at AC Milan.

With three goals and four assists in 10 appearances so far this season, Suso is starting to be noticed back in his home country, picked for the first time for the Spain squad earlier this month, even if he never left the bench in an 8-0 demolition of Liechtenstein.

As for a return to England in the future, we’ll have to wait and see.
