Chelsea defender Thiago Silva had a word with the Brazilian media following the Blues’ 1-1 draw against Real Madrid last night.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the 33-year-old talked about what the Blues need to do toget a result at Stamford Bridge and secure a place in the final.
“Everything is open. We know the strength of Real Madrid. It is a team that is used to playing these types of games,” Thiago Silva told TNT Sports.
“We have a small advantage that we hope to only use at the end of the game. But in the meantime, we have to try to make our best game again. Return to perform well. Because for the final we have to play well against this team of Real Madrid.”
Asked if Chelsea can beat the Spanish side in the next game, Thiago Silva claims that Thomas Tuchel’s side would need to improve for that to happen.
“When two great teams play, I think it’s 50% for each side. Today the first part is over and the second part we will decide at home. But as I said just a little, in order to reach the final, we have to perform better than we did today. Because we know it’ll be another game. It’s a decisive game. The most important 90 minutes of their lives and ours. And we have to be prepared. We play on Saturday, they play on Sunday, we have one more day of recovery. Suddenly this can be a positive point for us.”
Quizzed about how’s he been feeling for the final stretch of the season, Thiago Silva admits that despite being ready, his fitness situation isn’t great.
“I’m well, physically. I came from a slightly difficult injury on the front of my thigh against Tottenham. I spent a month and a little away. I think it was possible to work a little bit physically for this end of the season, which we know is the most decisive moment of the season, whether in the league or in other competitions. So I’m… I don’t believe I’m at my best physical level. Because I come from two or three games. But the end of the league is promising and I hope that we can succeed.”
Even though Thiago Silva has a brilliant career for the clubs he’s been at, he’s still to conquer a Champions League title. He was asked if it continues being a dream for him.
“I believe that every player who plays in a big club and plays at a high level aims to win the Champions League. Last year I came very close, this year we are close too, but with a lot of work to be done. So we already have a lot of respect for this team of Real Madrid. That in the second game we can perform better than today so that we can aim and deserve to go to a final.”
Before hosting Real Madrid next week, Chelsea are staying at the Stamford Bridge as they receive Fulham for their 33rd fixture of the Premier League on Saturday.
