Defender Marlon Fossey has admitted he jumped at the chance to leave Fulham and join Standard Liege.

The defender completed a move to the Belgian side earlier this month, joining for an undisclosed fee from Fulham’s U21 side.

It brought an end to a long association with Fulham, who he joined as a youth and worked his way up through the various ranks between 2014 and 2020.

He spent the last two years on loan in the English pyramid, first joining Shrewsbury in 2020 and Bolton in January of this year.

His third exit from Craven Cottage is a permanent one, with him electing to move to the Jupiler Pro League in the hope of continuing his development with Liege.

Whether that happens remains to be seen but he is certainly excited to get started and revealed how eager he was to make the move from Fulham during his press conference.

“I didn’t hesitate for a second when I heard I could sign for Standard,” Het Niuewsblad report him saying.

“It is a historic and important club in Belgium, so I hope to get a lot of minutes here. I always give my all during the matches and try to use my energy to drag the rest of the team.

“I’m looking forward to it (this weekend’s clash with Club Brugge), to see what Standard can do at Sclessin against one of the best teams in the league. Hopefully we will get to see a great game.”
