Mateusz Klich is back in the Poland frame after a gap of four years, and he’s obviously very pleased to find himself in the national squad with a reasonable chance of playing over the next week.
The 28 year old spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Utrecht, and when he left it was felt there was a good chance he wouldn’t be returning to Leeds United.
In the Netherlands a potential permanent deal for the summer was talked up, and Klich openly said his aim was to qualify for European football with the Eredivisie club.
As things changed at Leeds United, so they did with Klich too. He got his enjoyment of football back at FC Twente and saw that Thomas Christiansen had left the Championship club.
The managerial change made Klich determined to give things a second chance and he’s glad to be doing so under Marcelo Bielsa.
Speaking in Poland, Klich is quoted by Sportowy as saying: “I have matured as a player. I think I can give the team more than I could have four years ago. My career is a lot of ups and downs. I have had a lot of experience, I have gathered a lot of experience. Now I have the pleasure to work with an outstanding trainer, Marcelo Bielsa. He opened my eyes to many things.”
And Klich certainly wants to play, just being part of the Poland squad isn’t enough for the Leeds United midfielder: “I did not come to Warsaw to eat and sit in a hotel. I will do everything to show the coach Jerzy Brzęcz the best side of me, and fight for a place in the starting eleven team. That’s why I’m here, just like every other player.”
