Real Betis star Alex Moreno has admitted it was the love of the club’s fans that saw him turn down a move to Nottingham Forest this summer.
The full-back was one of several targeted by Steve Cooper’s side, who needed to sign another left-back following an injury to summer signing Omar Richards.
They lodged a bid for Moreno as a result but that was quickly rejected, with the Spanish side considering it too low for a key player in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.
Moreno then put an end to any rumours by declaring his intention to stay at Betis on social media, with Nottingham Forest going on to sign Renan Lodi on loan from Atlético Madrid instead.
The defender has since spoken about his decision on several occasions, insisting that he weighed up the offer from Nottingham Forest but considered staying at Betis better for him.
“I wrote it in a message at the time. I decided to stay because of the project,” Diario de Sevilla report him saying.
“It is true that it was a step in my career, but the fans, what is being created? Above all for the days I had lived, the affection I receive and the importance I have in this team.
“I feel very comfortable, very comfortable, I have a life here, a family…. But above all the affection of the people around me is what made me stay and continue to grow at Betis.
“It’s been four years, the feeling is very strong and I’m just another Betis player.”
