Italian website Calcio Mercato often interviews ex-players and football personalities to speak about the big games in the season. Ahead of Roma’s clash with Liverpool in the Champions League, the outlet invited former Reds’ left-back Andrea Dossena.
The 36-year-old, who revealed he is preparing himself to become a manager, has had his say on the Anfield clash, and claimed that Roma are pretty capable of surprising Liverpool away from home.
“Anfield for England and perhaps for all of Europe is not easy to face, but Roma, even if they’re not used to playing a Champions League semi-final, has many international players who can act on big stages.
“The Giallorossi then will have so much adrenaline after the historical qualification obtained against Barcelona.”
Dossena was also asked about his memories from his time at Liverpool. The former left-back, who played for the club between 2008 and 2010, recalled some of the best moments with the red shirt.
“There are so many memories: the debut, the most important Champions League challenges, the goal against Real Madrid, the FA Cup derby with Everton. You certainly live better football in England than in Italy.”
Questioned about any regrets in his departure from Liverpool, Dossena claimed there are no hard feelings: “No, I couldn’t adapt to the work culture of Benitez, I have many more regrets about the adventure in Napoli.”
Dossena was signed by Liverpool from Udinese in 2008 for €9m, and then sold to Napoli two years later for €3.75m. He made 31 appearances and scored two goals for the Reds: one against Real Madrid and another against Manchester United.
