This week, we saw Portuguese newspaper Record claiming there’s little chance that Manchester United target João Neves will leave in the summer, as Benfica have no intention of selling him.

Now even though the Lisbon side may have a strong position about his future, it doesn’t seem like the player shares that opinion. Because in a press conference, he now claimed there’s nothing certain about him staying with the Eagles for another season.

Speaking to Sport TV and quoted by Record, he only assured his commitment to Benfica for the coming months.

“My desire at the moment is to finish the season in the best possible way, both individually and collectively. My desire at the moment is to stay at Benfica. Then you never know, I can’t promise anything,” said Neves.

Earlier this year, Benfica even released an official statement making it clear that Manchester United do not have a priority to buy Neves, dismissing reports from England.

The Red Devils’ interest in the midfielder has been reported for a while now, especially because he’s having a breakthrough season for the Portuguese side.

Even though Benfica seem very much interested in holding him for longer, we shall see if his own attitude and desire may have an impact on the chances of a summer transfer, to Manchester United or somewhere else.
