Arsenal’s Jurriën Timber is pleased to have tasted success in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The defender arrived at the Emirates from Ajax in July 2023. A month later, he suffered a serious knee injury, forcing him to miss most of last season.
It was Timber’s first tie against Arsenal’s local rivals, and he played the full 90 minutes.
After the tie, the 23-year-old shared his views to Viaplay Nederland about the Gunners’ latest victory. His comments are relayed by Voetbal International.
“Wonderful. My first derby, you felt the enthusiasm in the dressing room. We were so happy with the win,” he said.
Declan Rice was suspended for the derby after his sending off in Arsenal’s draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Martin Ødegaard and Riccardo Calafiori picked up injuries while on international duty and missed the weekend clash against Tottenham.
Mikel Arteta’s side managed to secure three points despite not dominating the game. They had less possession and less shorts on target, but Gabriel Magalhães’ second half header was the difference between the two sides in the end.
“Credits to the team. It wasn’t easy with the players you’re missing, but it was a good performance,” Timber explained.
The Netherlands intentional has made four appearances in the league this season. This helped him return to the national team squad for September’s international break. Timber is pleased to feature regularly, after spending over 250 days on the sidelines last season.
“I’m happy to be fit. After my injury, being back in the game feels the best. Last week at Oranje with my brother was super nice and now winning at Spurs. There is also a nice week coming up [against Atalanta and Manchester City]. I can’t complain, I’m a footballer again,” he added.
