With Neymar reportedly expected to leave Paris Saint Germain this summer, he’s been linked to several destinations, including Manchester City.
Not many believe the Brazilian star would do well under the management of Pep Guardiola, but there’s someone who knows him and supports that move.
That’s Elano, who played for Manchester City between 2007 and 2009, and was also Neymar’s teammate at Santos between 2011 and 2012. He spoke to the Brazilian media (via Metropoles) and claimed he could even try to help to convince the PSG star to make that move.
“If I had that strength, I would want him to go to Manchester City. It would be good for him to work with Guardiola, I think I would give advice, I wanted him to go to City. I can try to do that, because of our friendship, but it’s not that simple.”
Elano also talked about his time at Manchester City, insisting he’s still happy about the experiences he had at the club.
“It was a very important time in my life. Due to this [management] change, I left and had a nice proposal from Galatasaray.
“It was a World Cup year, I wanted to play at the World Cup, but I confess that I should have stayed. I could have built a very beautiful story, but the time I was there was really cool.”
Elano joined Manchester City in a €12m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk and was sold to Galatasaray in 2009 for €7m. He made 80 appearances for the English club, with 18 goals scored and 11 assists made. Together with Neymar at Santos, he won the Copa Libertadores in 2011, and he’s currently a manager at Ferroviaria.
According to reports from Brazil, Neymar is open to the idea of leaving PSG this summer, and the Premier League is the most likely destination for him.
