Last Friday, it was reported that Southampton had made something of a concrete proposal to try and sign Mattias Svanberg from Bologna.
This came from Gazzetta dello Sport, who said the player was keen on a move to the Premier League, and the Saints were ready to get serious to push the deal over the line.
Well, it appears this is something the player is open to, admitting this summer could be the right time to move away from the Italian side.
He said, when speaking to Sport Expressen: “I can’t say much beyond what is written in the newspapers, but I look forward to the summer. We’ll see what happens. I have no problem staying in Italy, but I can imagine trying something new.”
It was said that Southampton had made a €10m offer, although it wasn’t made clear if that would be enough to secure his services.
For now, however, the Saints target is focusing on his time with the Sweden national team, and Sport Expressen state he has ‘asked his agent not to talk about transfer opportunities before the season is over’.
Therefore, it seems the first he learned about Southampton’s bid will have been in this chat with the local media.
