Manchester United struggled in all competitions this campaign and will finish the season without silverware.
The Red Devils, who conceded 41 goals in the league, have the second worst defensive record among the top 10 teams. The Manchester club’s failure to bolster their midfield in the previous two windows is partly to blame for this.
It will be a surprise if the Premier League side fail to bring in a defensive midfielder in the summer. Palmeiras’ Danilo Oliveira could become an option for United.
The Brazilian’s club teammate, Dudu, has backed him to join a big side like United in the near future.
“For me, he’s a crack who needs to play in the Premier League. I always tell him: You have to play at Manchester United, at Arsenal. It’s at those clubs. But you have to be calm, you have to have your head in place,” Dudu told ESPN Brasil.
“Because he’s a player who helps, who marks, who arrives in the attack, who builds plays for the offensive midfielders, who helps in defending. I think for me, he is one of the complete players, defensive midfielders, that we have in Brazilian football. We’re lucky that we have him in our team.”
Danilo was instrumental in helping his side overcome São Paulo in the second leg of the Campeonato Paulista’s final last weekend.
The 20-year-old missed the first leg as his side lost 3-1. In the return leg, he opened the scoring for Palmeiras and they went on to seal a 4-0 win. His fine displays for the South American side could help him land a move to Europe in the near future.
Dudu has suggested Danilo to make a switch to a club like Manchester United. It now remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford club will show any interest in the Brazilian.
