Following some stories emerging that Manchester United were interested in Matthijs de Ligt for a big transfer, the cost of the transfer was always going to push it back until the summer.

The Dutchman was a target for the Red Devils before his move to Bayern Munich from Ajax Amsterdam, and Sky Germany are reporting the Old Trafford side will get a second chance at getting him.

That’s because the Bavarian club have decided that he is ‘allowed to leave’ the Bundesliga giants in the summer, as Manchester United lurk.

In fact, he is ‘likely’ to get his wish of a transfer, as he is currently number three in the hierarchy behind Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano, while his club are also pursuing the likes of Ronald Araujo.

Therefore, he could get the exit he wants ‘if he receives a suitable offer’, and Manchester United could provide him that in the next few months.

In fact, it’s believed that if Erik ten Hag survives this season and remains the manager at Old Trafford, a move to the Premier League is ‘conceivable’ for De Liga.

A huge boost for Manchester United for their transfer plans, as he is the kind of player, at 24 years of age, in whom INEOS would likely be willing to spend money on over an experienced defender who wouldn’t be a long-term investment.
