Romelu Lukaku arrived at Chelsea this summer from Inter after spending two seasons at the San Siro, helping them win the Scudetto in the process.
The striker played under the current Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte at Inter and managed 64 goals and 16 assists in 95 matches in all competitions. It was the 28-year-old’s fine form and impressive statistics that convinced the Blues to invest in excess of €100m on him.
However, the Belgium international has failed to replicate his form at the west London club, managing only 10 goals and two assists in 28 matches. In the league, he has managed only five goals, out of which three came in the first three games.
Thomas Tuchel left the ex-Everton man out of the starting XI in his side’s 2-0 win over Lille in the Champions League tie on Tuesday. After the fixture, the German said Lukaku was physically and mentally tired.
According to Eurosport.it, the frontman did not arrive at Stamford Bridge ‘by the will of Tuchel’ and his relationship with the manager ‘do not seem to be resolvable’. Therefore, a transfer in the summer is ‘almost certain’.
It’s said Tottenham can be the ‘most concrete hypothesis’. Conte is an admirer of Lukaku and had pushed Inter to make an effort in signing him in 2019.
If Chelsea were to allow him join Spurs after this season, which is a big doubt in itself, the Italian would be reunited with his favourite player at Tottenham, and potentially have the ideal replacement for Harry Kane should the England international get his big move away from London.
