It would be ‘very stupid’ for Belgium not to include Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in their squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
That’s according to Beerschot goalkeeper Mike Vanhamel, who believes the Blues midfielder is a shoe in for Roberto Martinez’s squad.
Onana has been impressing for Everton since arriving in a big money move from Lille in the summer.
He only managed a handful of starts for the French side last season but has quickly been installed as a starter by Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.
He’s earned that with a series of impressive performances in the heart of the Blues’ midfield, showing he has a bright future in the game.
And Vanhamel now believes it would be a huge mistake to not have the Everton man as part of the group going to Qatar.
“Nobody is going to keep him out of the squad,” he told Play Sports, relayed by Voetbal Belgie.
“He is so strong defensively and offensively at 21, although perhaps he could be a bit more efficient.
“He is omnipresent and has been performing very well all season now. He regularly exceeds the level of the game and only players who have that extra touch can do that.
“It would be very stupid not to use that player in this form with the Red Devils.”
