The Portuguese press now brings some bad news regarding Liverpool star Diogo Jota.
According to outlet A Bola, the Reds’ winger will miss the World Cup this year due to a muscle injury picked up in the game against Manchester City at the weekend.
The report claims there’s no time for him to recover before the final call up, with the tournament starting on the 20th of November.
It’s said Jota had an MRI, and even though Liverpool are still to disclose the results, it’s said that the player will be sidelined for ‘longer than a month’, and that will ‘completely’ rule out any chances of him being with the national team.
The winger has 28 caps for Portugal, for whom he has scored 10 goals, and by featuring regularly in Fernando Santos’ side, he was expected to be one of their key players in the World Cup.
Even though the injury certainly comes out as a blow for Liverpool, who will be missing him for a few games this season, it’s certainly sadder for the player that he will miss the chance of playing the international tournament in Qatar.
