Speaking to Mundo Deportivo this week, Brazilian agent Giuliano Bertolucci has revealed that a Premier League club tried to sign Marquinhos from PSG last summer.

According to the representative, the English side offered €60m for the defender, but the bid was rejected by the Parisien club.

Now Le 10 Sport are coming up with a story today saying they’re aware of which club made the attempt to sign the player. They claim that Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United have all bid for Marquinhos, but it was the London side who made the highest offer.

After seeing the €60m bid rejected by PSG, the Blues went for their plan b, who wasn’t far from Marquinhos. It was his partner David Luiz, who ended up leaving the French side to return to Chelsea on a €35m move on the deadline day.

In the interview, Bertolucci has also revealed that talks for Marquinhos’ renewal with PSG have been stalled for months. The player’s current deal with the French side runs until 2019, so there’s no immediate pressure on PSG.

Manchester United have been linked with Marquinhos for several years, claims encouraged at times by the player’s agent. Should Jose Mourinho enter the market again for a central defender in the summer then the rumours will likely start again.
